The unique replica of the rocket fighter is back

The Me 163 BS is back at the Flugmuseum Messerschmitt.

This one-off was built by Josef Kurz from 1994 onwards and has been owned by EADS since 2000 and subsequently - with the change of name - then by Airbus. In 2005, the aircraft was extensively overhauled and modified by Bitz Flugzeugbau in Augsburg. The designation Me 163 BS was chosen to express the fact it is a Me 163 B, but without propulsion, operated as a glider (S).
After being decommissioned in 2014, the aircraft underwent intensive maintenance at an external company and is now certified for flight operations again. In flight operations, another Airbus heritage aircraft, the Do 27 D-EMNQ, serves as a tow plane. The photo shows both aircraft after releasing the towline at different altitudes.
